Newby Hall
Newby Hall
25 acres of stunning gardens, a sculpture park, an exciting children’s adventure garden and miniature railway are just a few of the delights that await you at Newby Hall and Gardens.
Newby Hall, a graceful country house and the family home of Mr and Mrs Richard Compton was designed under the guidance of Sir Christopher Wren and epitomises the Georgian ‘Age of Elegance’. It is renowned for its exquisite 18th century Robert Adam’s interiors, with rooms specially designed to show off the collections of Chippendale furniture, French Gobelin Tapestries and the largest private collection of Greek and Roman statues.
As well as the House visitors can enjoy award-winning gardens featuring one of Europe’s longest double herbaceous borders. Newby also holds many specialist plant collections including a national collection of Cornus (Dogwoods) and has a series of small compartmentalised gardens which are designed to provide colour and interest throughout the year. Children can play safely in the thoughtfully designed Children’s Adventure Garden – from the water play area, sand pit and swings for toddlers, to the exciting pirates’ fort, aerial ropeway and pedalo boats for older children.
